I don't know if this make sense in my context, since my modest amount of texting shouldn't be taxing the hardware, and since the problem seems to be triggered by the device updating. I'm looking for a way to mark my texts as unread and have the new message icon show at the top of the screen. There is an app called 'Mark as Unread', published by Christian Asbjrn Skogsberg (check for it) so i guess it is possible. In your list of conversations, tap and hold on the one you wish to mark as unread, then swipe your finger toward the right side of your screen. I wasn't able to recreate it by restarting the device, which makes me think it's triggered by OS updates (which was the case for the most recent time this occurred). This has happened maybe half a dozen times over the last two months. The way this is done in emails is to mark emails as unread you can read an email, then mark it as unread so youll know you still need to. Sometimes I just want to look at them but still leave them for myself to deal with later. From what I can tell, it works in reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent text and working backwards across all conversations. But, once I tap the notification to see the text messages or the people who called, the notification is cleared. Sometimes it will mark a dozen at a time, sometimes it goes for as long as I have the SMS app open-buzzing me about an old text about once per second. ![]() My S21 Ultra is a few months old now (September, 2021), and has recently developed a problem where it will start marking old text messages as unread.
